Good Enough For Heaven?
Ghandi was a good man. Nobody in their right mind will try to deny that as fact, even me. Before you pass me of as another babbling nutcase, read what I have to say.
God says in his word that "the wages of sin is death," and that the only way to ovecome this, and be with him in heaven is through belief in and acceptance of his son, Jesus Christ. Some like to believe that through their own works, by their own good, they can make their own way into heaven. This is based largely on the assumption that a good deed can erase a bad deed, which is complete foolishness (a foolishness found in all humans, but foolishness none-the-less). Nothing in the past can be erased. If I walk up to a man and kill him, nothing can undo the fact that he has been killed. Even if he somehow manages to come back to life (something I believe to be a possibility, but more on that some other time), he was killed by me, and that cannot be undone. The deed can be forgiven, but not erased. I have ceased to be a good person, and cannot destroy the bad I had done.
There is a gulf in between earth and heaven. Every single human being has a desire to go to a better place after they end their life on earth (if they deny this, they are either liers or insane). There are two ways to cross this gulf. One way to cross it is to leap across it on your own strenghth. Perhaps, if you step just right, and do everything perfectly, you will be able to accomplish this. The problem is that for humans, this is an impossibility. Think back to when you were little and stole a cookie out of the cookie jar (or did some other small crime). That deed is done now. Whether your mother forgave you or not (or even knows), that cookie cannot be put back into the jar. It is gone, and you are a marred human being. You made a slight misstep, and cannot repair it. When your time comes, you jump, and miss Heaven by an inch. Just like Ghandi would have done. You cannot do it on your own. Whether you miss by an inch, or by a mile, you miss.
The second possibility is to ask for help getting accross the chasm. Jesus is capable of carrying you accross that abyss to safety. All that must be done is to admit that you are incapable of doing it yourself and ask for help dealing with your imperfections. Since Jesus lived a perfect life and died for you, in your place, you are capable of turning to him, and having your imperfections overlooked by God. And I guarentee it will make life a lot more worth living too.

Soon as I erase you from my bookmarks, you start writing again ;)
its good to see ur back to writing... i enjoy ur blog.
as for commenting on your entry... i know, as everyone knows, that i am hoplessly flawed in everyway possible, but i also know my Jesus is there to help me in spite of those flaws so He can use me for His glory.
One of the best versions of the bridge diagram I have ever seen. If I wasn't a Christian I'd seek you out and ask how I can become one.
God bless,
Isaac
